The panel of three county officials charged with choosing a replacement voted Wednesday to set the deadline but also to seek an extension. They said a state law that requires them to fill the job within 15 days of the start of the sheriff s term doesn t provide adequate time to evaluate applicants. I just don t see how we can do this within 15 days, said Prosecutor Kym Worthy, who serves on the appointment panel.

Public viewing is set for 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Dec. 28 at Swanson Funeral Home on Grand Boulevard in Detroit, according to a post from Napoleon s daughter on his Facebook page. A second day of public viewing is set for 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 29 at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.
The family plans a private service, which will be livestreamed on the Swanson Funeral Home website.
