The blood supply has always fluctuated within the state of Hawaiʻi, but the situation was dire on Easter weekend when there was only a day-and-half worth of type O blood.
Mayor Bissen is partnering with The Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi to honor more than 45 donors on Wednesday, March 22 at 8 a.m. who have made at least 100 lifetime donations.
Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi will also host a blood drive for Maui residents, Wednesday, March 21-23 at the Cameron Center in Wailuku.
The Food and Drug Administration loosened restrictions again for gay and bi-sexual men who want to donate blood. Gay men in monogamous relationships can now donate anytime.
