One of the themes that emerged in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire was the link between the disaster and austerity. But its actually here that the real story of the grenfell fire begins. You see, on this road, the council sold off a load of its property, including some of these basement flats. They took £6 million from those sales, they added in £3 million from elsewhere, and they put that £9 million or so budget towards renovating and refurbishing Grenfell Tower.
