Cspan3. Every july for the past 25 years, the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee has hosted a civil war battle reenactment and living history village depicting camp life. Next, we visit a union army surgeon and embalmer and talk to reenactors about medical practices during the war. During the very beginning of the war, like i said, maybe around 1860, when there were a lot of quack surgeons in the union army, dr. Letterman in 1862 at an teem took over the medical corps. Now he created an ambulance corps where we could get the men off the battlefield quicker and faster. He also went and had to give tests to surgeons to be army qualified surgeons. Thats where it got better and better in the service. 3 million fought, 600,000 died in it. 700,000 carry wounds off that battlefield.
