Floods Displace Hundreds Of Families In Mangochi

Hundreds of families from Maldeco to Makawa trading centres in Mangochi have been displaced by floods. Heavy rains that fell from 3pm to late hours on Wednesday in the district induced the floods.
According to an eye witness, some of the houses and business structures have been submerged in water thereby displacing hundreds of people.
The victims are said to have sought refuge in schools and some nearby structures.
Meanwhile, Francis Kadzokoya, district disaster officer said this morning an emergency response team will be dispatched and visit the affected areas to assess the situation.

DC calls for relief support as rains displace people in Mangochi

Mangochi district commissioner (DC) Dr. Raphael Piringu has appealed for more humanitarian support for hundreds of households whose houses and property have been damaged by stormy rains in the district.

The DC made the appeal on Saturday following an assessment report on a recent disaster in Traditional Authority (TA) Namavi where 183 households were affected due to stormy rains that poured between Wednesday and Thursday.
Piringu said the affected households, among them female-headed households, need immediate relief items such as food and shelter while awaiting implementation of long term measures. ....
