Macron stresses importance of nuclear energy for France : Nuclear Policies

French President Emmanuel Macron said yesterday that France s energy and ecological future depends on nuclear power. Speaking during a visit to Framatome s Le Creusot facility, Macron said the industry comprises 3000 companies and 220,000 jobs, with 5000 new hires planned for 2021 in spite of the crisis caused by the pandemic. Few sectors offer as much, in particular to our young people and all across the country, Macron tweeted.

According to World Nuclear Association, France derives about 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy thanks to a longstanding policy based on energy security. France is the world s largest net exporter of electricity due to its very low cost of generation, and gains over EUR3 billion per year from this. Government policy however is to reduce the share of nuclear in its electricity mix to 50% by 2035. ....
