Edwin Poots: PM leads reaction to DUP leadership election

Edwin Poots has been elected leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), beating MP Sir Jeffrey Donaldson by 19 votes to 17.
MLA Paula Bradley has been elected as the party s deputy leader, beating MP Gregory Campbell.
They are now set to lead the DUP into next years election for the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Other political stakeholders from across the UK and Ireland have been reacting to their victory.
Boris Johnson tweeted his congratulations to the newly elected DUP leader.
The prime minister said people across the UK are best served when we work together and that he looked forward to working with Mr Poots . ....

Concern over UK plans to ban Troubles-era prosecutions

The Government has reacted with dismay to reports that the UK authorities are to ban prosecutions of former British soldiers who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.
The Daily Telegraph and Times newspapers are reporting that the move is to be announced in the Queen s speech next week.
It is claimed the legislation would introduce a statute of limitations so there would be no prosecutions for any alleged crimes committed before the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.
The reports say the ban would apply across the board, so would also include former members of the IRA and loyalist paramilitary organisations. ....
