Carbon Tax: "Carbon leakage is the phenomenon of companies moving production to countries with weaker environmental regulations to avoid paying carbon prices in the EU. This objective could have been achieved by merely taxing imports from the EU firms, which have shifted production to other countries. Union Minister R K Singh stated that with the 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) installed capacity under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India could reduce fossil fuel imports worth Rs 1 lakh crore by 2030. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2023 with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore, aims to position India as a global hub for green hydrogen manufacturing.
