A young entrepreneur has just sealed a deal – with her mum – to expand on her first business venture.
Georgie Mackay (10), a pupil at Avoch Primary School, set up Georgie s Candles during the coronavirus pandemic and is now set to see her products go on sale at the Tweedy Pie shop in Fortrose, run by mum Julie. ....

Contract worth £12m set to be awarded for three new nurseries


Plans for Govanhill nursery approved
A CONTRACT worth £12.3m for the construction of three new nurseries in Glasgow is set to be approved by councillors on Thursday.
City Building would deliver the project which will see early learning and childcare facilities built at Tollcross, Carntyne and Govanhill.
They are being developed to help the council meet the Scottish Government’s commitment to provide 1140 hours of statutory childcare.
Glasgow received £44m of government funding for the project, which is to be spent on additional infrastructure.
The city council will spend £23.5m on new build facilities and £10.6m on refurbishing existing buildings. It has allocated £3m for extending existing sites and £6.4m for adaptations. ....

Cuthbertson Nursery plans
A CONSULTATION on three new nursery schools for Glasgow is now underway in a significant step for early learning in the city.
Glasgow City Council is asking for views on early years centres in the East End, South Side and West End.
These will see new build establishments and changes to current nurseries in a bid to create enough places to accommodate an expansion in free nursery hours.
Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convenor for Education, Skills and Early Years said: “We’ve been working for a number of years to prepare for the roll out of 1140 fully funded hours for our children and families to benefit. ....
