Scott Valley supports Miles Isbell with blood drive, bake sale

Siskiyou Daily News The community of Scott Valley came out in force last week by giving blood and money to help 9-year-old Miles Isbell, who is battling a cancerous Medullablastoma tumor on his brain. Wednesday s bake sale raised more than $5,000, the rolling pin raffle raised $675, and shirts and other donations brought in over $1,000. All the time slots for Friday s blood drive were filled with an impressive 30 pints collected. The event was organized by two longtime Scott Valley community members, Mary Adams and Maria Gamache. The bake sale was organized by Shelly Starr Suetta.  Both events were scheduled for Wednesday, but Vitalant, who operated the blood drive, could not make it from Redding until Friday.

Organized by two longtime Scott Valley community members, Mary Adams and Maria Gamache, all appointment slots have been filled from noon to 4 p.m., although walk-ins are welcome if they don t mind a wait. “You can do so much for someone by donating blood, said Gamache. Everyone in this community has such a love for Miles and wants to help.

9-year-old Scott Valley boy Miles Isbell continues fight against cancer Siskiyou Daily News Treatment continues for 9-year-old Miles Isbell as he battles cancer like a champion, enduring grueling chemo sessions and long stays in the hospital away from his Scott Valley home. His mom, Joy Isbell, said the love and support from the community, nation and world has been amazing. “He’s an exceptional kid,” Joy said about her son. “He’s touched a lot of different people. He has a presence about him. It’s amazing how so many people have come together to help Miles and our family. Everyone has been tremendous. It has been the best and worst time of our lives.”
