Trey Cunningham Takes Center Stage at The Bowerman Ceremony

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Former Florida State hurdler Trey Cunningham will look to make one final impact on collegiate track and field on Thursday night as he looks to become the second Seminole to win The Bowerman, collegiate track and field's most prestigious individual award. The ceremony will take place at 9 p.m. eastern inside the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Aurora, Colo. Fans can watch the ceremony on USTFCCCA's YouTube page. Cunningham is one of three male finalists joining Randolph Ross (North Carolina A&T) and Ayden Owens-Delerme (Arkansas). Ngoni Makusha won the award for the Seminoles in 2011. Cunningham put together one of the greatest seasons in collegiate track and field hurdle history during his 2022 campaign. In the indoor season, Cunningham became the first collegiate athlete to run 7.42 or faster four separate times in the 60m hurdles. Jernstedt Wins Swedish National Title

Tallahassee, Fla.  – Three members of the Florida State women’s swimming and diving team won seven individual medals at the Swedish National Championships that were held from June 29-July 3 in Linköping. Rising sophomore Edith Jernstedt brought home three medals, winning gold in the 200m fly at 2:16.79. Jernstedt also turned in two silver medal-winning performances, clocking 59.76 in the 100m fly and 2:18.04 in the 200m IM. Both swims were personal best times. She also added a career-best in the 50m fly, placing fourth at 27.29. Gloria Muzito contributed silver in the 50m free, touching at 26.19 after clocking 26.66 in prelims for fifth place. She also took seventh in the 100m free (57.72) and opened the meet by placing 25th in the 50m back at 31.72. Signee Julia Mansson also won three medals, including a gold in the 200m breast at 2:28.16, which was a personal best.  She was also the runner-up in the 100m breast behind another career-best at 1:08.60 and 50m breast (31.80). ....

Terebo Shines at World Championships

Tallahassee, Fla.  – Former Florida State standout Emma Terebo produced the highlight of the 19th FINA World Championships among the four swimmers in action in Budapest, Hungary last week. While representing France, Terebo swam in the final heat of the women’s 100m back, finishing in fifth place at 59.98, just off her career-best of 59.64. Terebo qualified in sixth place out of prelims, clocking a 59.87. In the semifinals, working in the first heat, Terebo touched in fourth place at 1:00.07, securing the last spot in the finals in eighth place. Terebo is just the second female in FSU history to compete in a long course World Championship swimming final, joining Ida Hulkko, who represented Finland 50m breast final in 2019, placing eighth (31.23). She also raced in the semifinal of the 200m back, touching with a time of 2:11.77 after swimming her personal best in prelims at 2:11.17.
