SYDENHAM Frontenac County municipalities are to share more than $1.84 million from upper-tied governments for upgrades to recreational facilities.
The federal government is putting up $1 million and the provincial government is adding more than $840,000 more for four projects.

Ontario Strongly Opposed To Proposed Lumber Duties

The provincial government is speaking out against proposed I.S. Commerce Department preliminary duties on softwood lumber imports from Canada.
If approved, anti-dumping rates will more than double from 8.99% to 18.32%
Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski says Ontario is disappointed with the decision and stresses this is a missed opportunity to bring back free trade and stop what he calls unjustified duties on Canadian lumber exports.
Yakabuski says, “As we take deliberate action to combat COVID-19 and look ahead to economic recovery, it is critical to support our forestry industry and defend the integral role it plays in the economies of Canada and Ontario.” ....

The provincial government is taking steps to enhance the forest industry, grow the economy, and reduce waste.
A draft Forest Biomass Action Plan has been released and is up for public review and comment.
The strategy examines innovative uses of forest biomass including sustainable, low-carbon consumer products.
It outlines five key objectives:
1. Identifying pathways to markets for forest biomass
2. Supporting demand for forest bioenergy and bioproducts
3. Improving the business and regulatory environments for the use of forest biomass
4. Supporting holistic, culturally relevant pathways for Indigenous community involvement in forest biomass value chains to support reconciliation between Indigenous communities and the Crown ....
