BENGALURU: While a stern watch is being kept on large hospitals, nodal officials should be appointed to smaller hospitals in each zone, said BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta on Tuesday.Nodal officials already keep an eye on hospitals with over 100 beds, but it is not the case with smaller ones. Nodal officials should also check smaller facilities and ensure 50 per cent of beds are reserved, he added. ....

Wild tusker Kusha, who escapade from Dubare elephant camp into the jungles to find companions had the Forest Department on tenterhooks for months, has won his freedom.
His release from the camp was ordered by Forest Minister Aravind Limbavali on Wednesday after a prolonged discussion with the officials.
Though captured from the wild near Chettahalli in Madikeri forest division five years ago and put in a Kraal in Dubare and tamed, it did not crush his spirit and he yearned for freedom. ....

Scheme will be extended to all districts in the State, says Forest Minister
Forest Minister Aravind Limbavali on Saturday said the department will launch a scheme to plant saplings of fruit-bearing trees on 100 acres in Belthangady taluk on June 5 as a pilot programme. The initiative will be replicated in all districts from next year, the Minister said.
He was speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with department officials, people’s representatives and Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade at Dharmasthala. Mr. Heggade will launch the programme, the Minister said. ....

Forest Minister Aravind Limbavali on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that shoot-at-sight order has been given to department officials to kill a tiger in Kodagu that has claimed lives in the district.
In a reply to question from K.G. Bopaiah and Appachu Ranjan (of the BJP) during Zero Hour, Mr. Limbavali said the department has caught a tigress but another tiger was creating an atmosphere of fear in Virajpet and other areas in Kodagu.
Both BJP members said that if the department failed to capture the tiger, then the people should be given the power to shoot it. Many people fear going to plantations, they said. ....
