ROCKFORD A Rockford man wanted on warrants was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with a string of additional offenses, police said.
Officers responded at about 1 p.m. to the 5700 block of Forest Hills Road where Darion Gulley, 28, was spotted getting into a car. Gulley was wanted for aggravated discharge of a firearm and contempt warrants.
According to police, Gulley tried to drive away but crashed into a police vehicle and was taken into custody following a brief struggle.
Officers recovered a gun that was defaced.
In addition to the warrants, Gulley was charged with criminal damage to government property, aggravated fleeing to elude, aggravated assault, resisting a police officer, armed habitual criminal, possession of a defaced firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
