The winds will pick up in new orleans. the peak winds expected late this afternoon into the evening. here is the new forecast track from the hurricane center. notice the red line is the center path. almost over the top of holloman. it s the biggest population in southeast louisiana about 32,000 people live there. hopefully almost all are gone. they re protected bay levy but we re not positive that the water will hold back from that levy. i was hearing the levy is at 12 feet high. the storm surge is supposed to be 10 to 15 feet. they re getting hit by the equivalent of a powerful tornado and have to deal with the storm surge and the potential for up to 2 feet of rain. you can t picture a city with a more dire forecast than them now. new orleans on the right side of that forecast path. morgan city on the left side. yesterday we were thinking morgan city could be the devastated area and it s looking like ulna, louisiana. ....

Baton rouge and for our folks in slidell. the extreme wind warning is issued when the center of the storm comes onshore. if you get winds above 115 miles per hour. they extended this and issued it closer to new orleans. it butts right up against the western portion of the city. and that extreme wind warning will go throughout the next couple hours as the eye heads northwards. we were thinking earlier today new orleans would be just outside of the eyewall. it wouldn t go through the heart of the storm, but because of this turn towards the north, it s going to bring this western eyewall very close to the city limits as we go throughout the next three hours. we easily could get the western portion of the city, 100-mile-per-hour gusts, 110-mile-per-hour gusts. you can see, this black line is the forecast path. it was going on a pretty much northwest track. looked like it was going right for houma. then it slowed down and stalled. and then look at that, due north, and the eye, it has to rep ....

You can see where it s located over the top. it s heading right for the border area. the wind gust is 38. even right near the center, we re not seeing crazy winds. new port 43. providence 39. the weakening of the storm over the last 12 hours will help with the number of total power outages. maximum winds are at 60 miles an hour. that s the equivalent of a strong nor easter for this portion of the country. it s moving o the northwest at 12. here is new forecast path. look how quickly it will move. by 8:00 p.m. this evening, this thing is already in western massachusetts near pitssfield. it will cross over the border around connecticut and rhode island. this afternoon travel through connecticut and that heavy rain band on the western side of this will be from the catskills, the western portion of connecticut down towards northern new jersey. that s a huge concern. we have tropical storm warnings that have been extended through ....
