Nigeria moves to eliminate child labour in four years

Specific actions aimed at eliminating child labour would be identified, implemented and sustained between 2021 and 2025 under the auspices of the National Policy and National Action Plan on the Elimination of Child Labour.   Speaking at the launch of the 2021 International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour (IYECL) as part of global action to accelerate the fight against the practice, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, said the event marks the formal take-off of the Action Pledges made by Nigeria at the global launch on the 21st January 2021.   The UN General Assembly had, in July 2019, declared 2021 as the ‘International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour’ and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was mandated to take the lead in implementing it.  The declaration was a call for an accelerated pace of progress at all levels in the global fight against child labour, thro ....

The Federal Government on Thursday restated its resolve to entirely eradicate child labour in the country by empowering 350,000 households/child labour victims in supply chain hubs, in Zamfara, Abia,  Sokoto,  Cross River, Kogi, Niger, and Ekiti among others.
The Government also described child labour as evil, bad and unaccessible in the country.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen spoke at the Validation Workshop of the National Policy and Action Plan on the Elimination of Child Labour 2021-2025 and the official launch of the 2021 Commemoration for the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour in Nigeria, in Abuja. ....

FG, ILO to Conduct Survey on Child Labour, Forced Labour, Modern Slavery

The federal government has said that it will conduct a National Multiurvey on Child Labour, Forced Labour, Modern Slaveryple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) on child labour, forced labour and modern slavery in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) before the end of June.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who disclosed this at an event marking the national launch of 2021 International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour, held at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja, said the survey is part of the pledge made by Nigeria in January at the launch of International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour seeking to end child labour, forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking by 2025. ....
