We have a lot of discussions on BBV about how one should prioritize players in making draft selections. Usually the discussion is about drafting the best player available (BPA) vs. drafting for your team s greatest need.
In his time as Giants GM, Dave Gettleman has probably done some of both. Saquon Barkley at #2 in 2018 was certainly viewed by DG as a BPA (a gold jacket guy), although once their careers are over Quenton Nelson may be seen as the actual BPA. On the other hand, you can certainly make the case that Daniel Jones at #6 was a need pick. ....
