Sask. Food Centre gets millions of dollars for expansion

The Agri-Food Innovation Centre in Saskatoon is getting a big boost to expand.
Agriculture Minister David Marit says $2.3-million in federal and provincial funding will assist processors to develop new food products from Saskatchewan farms.
Marit says the expansion of the Agri-Food Innovation Centre will create more jobs and a more diversified agricultural economy for Saskatchewan.
The total expansion investment is $7.5-million.
Since opening in 1997, the Food Centre has served over 400 clients and assisted in development of 885 new products.

To date, the first phase addition has added 12,200 square feet at the site of the Agri-Food Innovation Centre in Saskatoon. The first phase expansion will consist of additional incubation suites, storage and an extrusion commercialization suite; the second phase will include a maintenance shop and a separate facility for food and industrial (non-food) processing.
