The Centre on Sunday asked the state governments to keep ration shops, also called fair price shops, open for a longer duration and on all days to ensure timely and safe distribution of both subsidised and free foodgrains to the poor. An advisory in this regard has been issued by the Union Food Ministry following representations that during the current lockdown in some states/UTs, ration shops timings have been curtailed due to which the intended beneficiaries might not be getting adequate time to lift their entitled foodgrains. In view of ongoing lockdown in some States/UTs, that may curtail the functioning hours of Fair Price Shop (FPS), an advisory has been issued on 15th May, 2021.to keep the FPSs open, preferably on all days of the month, the ministry said in a statement. ....

About Rs 8,180 crore has already been transferred directly into Punjab farmers account, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said. As per the ministry, in the ongoing Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22, the Government of India continues to procure Rabi crops at MSP from farmers as per existing Price Support Scheme. Wheat procurement is going on at a brisk pace in the procuring States and UTs of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other States with the purchase of over 222.33 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) up to April 25, 2021 against 77.57 LMT during the corresponding period of last year, it said. ....
States take measures to revive 202 sick sugar mills across the country The measures include PPPs and collaborations The State governments are taking various steps, including private, public partnerships and collaborations to revive non-operational sugar mills. Recently, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution told the Lok Sabha that there are 202 non-operational sugar mills across the States while 493 mills are operational. “In the case of private sector sugar mills, it is the responsibility of the entrepreneurs to take necessary steps to operationalise their closed sugar mills, and in case of co-operative/public sector sugar mills, the responsibility lies with the co-operative societies/respective state governments” the Ministry stated. ....
Kharif paddy production increased by 15.91 pc in 2020-21 ANI | Updated: Feb 21, 2021 22:27 IST New Delhi [India], February 21 (ANI): The paddy procurement in the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21 has increased by 15.91 per cent as compared to that of last year. According to an official release by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, paddy procurement is going smoothly in several states and Union Territories (UTs) including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra with a purchase of over 651.07 lakh metric tonnes (LMTs) till February 19. Out of these, Punjab has contributed 202.82 LMT which contributes to 31.15 per cent of total procurement ....
