《希伯来书》的作者一开始就开宗明义，指出神在这末世藉着祂儿子，也就是耶稣基督，来晓瑜我们（1:2）。这句话也是为全书定下了基调，即神不仅仅是藉着耶稣基督来做成一件事情而已，而且也是藉着耶稣基督所成就的事情来向我们传递祂的信息，来向我们讲话。所以很显然，既然是神向我们讲话，那么谁敢不听、谁能忽略呢？而对神向我们所讲之话的应有回应，就是“信”。作者指出，以色列人因为不信而跌倒，而我们则不要学他们的样子，要以信来回应神的话语。作者在书卷中虽然花了大量篇幅来论述耶稣作为大祭司，将自己作为圣洁无瑕疵的祭物一次献上就完成了永远有效的救恩，但作者真正要带出的，乃是我们对耶稣基督所成就的这确凿救恩的信心的回应。
