Bentley Continental GT Speed review: supercar in a Savile Row suit : CityAM

The first modern Bentley I truly fell in love with was a Continental GT Speed. It was a first-generation car, which I drove way back in 2008, on a memorable blast from Crewe to North Wales and back again.
The regular Continental GT always felt a bit too much like a cruiser to me: effortlessly fast, but soft and remote with it. More luxury car, less focused GT. The Speed fixed that, with a soupcon of extra bite and attitude. I’d still have taken a Porsche 911, but now understood the allure of the Bentley.
Generation two came and went, with a Speed version available from the start. But while the third generation arrived in 2018, we’ve had to wait until now for the Speed to arrive. Why the delay? ....

The Bentley Continental GT Speed is simply… epic


If you’ve ever watched the British Grand Prix then you’ll know that Silverstone Circuit is one of the fastest tracks on the Formula One calendar. There are high-speed corners here that can be taken pretty much flat out, that squeeze the air from your lungs every time. So what you need and want at this place isn’t just power, it’s agility, lightness and a mighty set of brakes.
On the face of it, the new Bentley Continental GT Speed doesn’t really fit the bill. As its name implies, it cleaves to that romantic old grand touring mission, inviting you to settle into the leather-clad finery of its cabin so it can erase the 700 miles or so that separate London from Monaco. Sure, we know the regular Continental GT is way more interactive and nimble than you’d expect but still… Silverstone? Are they mad? ....

The new 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed weighs just more than 5,000 pounds and packs 650 hp and 664 lb-ft; in terms of its weight-to-power ratio, it s an above-average Bentley. But the work done under the hood isn t what makes the new Continental GT Speed special. Rather, the it is the work done to the chassis and to the vehicle dynamics systems you notice most. ....

Bentley Continental GT Speed (2021) review: the sharpest Conti yet

This is fun: the Bentley Continental GT Speed just carved into one of Silverstone’s apex kerbs with unerring accuracy, especially since I’ve just turned in at a greater rate of knots than was probably sensible. Mid-corner it’s full of feedback, letting me know just how much grip is available at both axles, and on exit it’s keener to oversteer than any Bentley I’ve driven previously.
Whether powered by V8 or W12, the ‘regular’ Bentley Continental GT can do great things but it’s not necessarily a great driver’s car. It’s enormously surefooted (and genuinely nimble) for such an enormous car, and it’s as clever and safe as it is fast, but it’s not necessarily involving.  ....
