Unpacking Jammu Kashmir's Rs 118,728 Crore Budget 2024-25

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's fifth consecutive budget proposal for Jammu and Kashmir envisions a total expenditure of Rs 118,728 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, a slight increase from the current fiscal's estimate of Rs 118,500 crore. The budget breakdown indicates that Jammu and Kashmir's own tax revenue, non-tax revenue, and grants from the centre will contribute significantly to the income side. Additional resource mobilization is expected to generate Rs 10,732 crore. Expenditure allocation includes Rs 31,566 crore for salaries, Rs 13,651 crore for pensions, and funds for various primary revenue expenditures, power purchase, maintenance, grants in aid, and Central Sponsored Scheme implementation.
