MEMBERS of the Flitchers Association in Ondo State recently barricaded the Benin/Ore/Lagos Expressway in protest against alleged illegal extortion.
They accused officials of Ogun State Government of extortion in the name of collecting revenue from them, while transporting planks and teak wood through Ogun State.
Traffic at Ajebandele, the Produce Control Post between Ondo and Ogun states, was disrupted for hours as the protesters blocked the highway thereby causing temporary hardship for commuters.
The protesters who displayed placards with various inscriptions alleged that many of their members have suffered physical assaults from agents of the Ogun State Government at any slight provocation.

Traffic at Ajebandele, the Produce Control Post between Ondo and Ogun State on the Ore-Ijebu Ode expressway was yesterday disrupted for several hours, as members of the Ondo State Flitchers’ Association barricaded the road, causing temporary hardship for commuters.
The Flitchers in their numbers protested what they described as illegal extortion and barbaric activities of the officials of Ogun State Government, who are collecting revenue from them when transporting planks and teak wood through the state.
The protesters bore placards with various inscriptions, alleging that many of their members have suffered physical assaults from agents of the Ogun State Government at the slight provocation.

Timber dealers, under the aegis of the Ondo State Filchers Association, on Monday, protested against alleged extortion, molestation and coercion by the Ogun State Revenue Service Agency.
The protesters blocked the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway at the boundary between Ogun and Ondo states at Ajebamide community in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The protesters also disrupted the free flow of traffic for almost an hour singing various solidarity songs.
They carried placards with various inscriptions such as: ‘Stop unlawful collection of N50,000 only from our members at Atoyo junction’, ‘Abiodun, caution your people’, ‘Stop illegal ticketing on the highway’ and ‘Unlawful ticketing by Ogun State Government at Atoyo junction’, among others.
