The Jefferson City Jays snapped a 19-year Final Four drought last season. With a win this afternoon in Springfield against the Parkview Vikings in the Class 5 state quarterfinals, the Jays can be one of the last four teams remaining for the second straight year.
The Jefferson City, Helias and Capital City boys basketball teams are staying in town today to start the Class 5 District 5 Tournament. The first round begins with four games split between two gyms.
The Jefferson City Jays dominated their regular-season finale Friday night at Fleming Fieldhouse. The Jays jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first minute of the game and never looked back, running away with an 84-36 victory against the Kauffman Blue Knights.
The Jefferson City Lady Jays were able to play with the Class 6 No. 5 Rock Bridge Bruins through the first half Thursday night at Fleming Fieldhouse. The Lady Jays trailed just 16-13 with 2:20 left in the second quarter before entering the locker room with a 22-13 deficit. Then, the Bruins turned up the pressure.
The next time the Helias Crusaders take to the wrestling mats, it will be the postseason.
Helias wrapped up the regular season Wednesday night with a 37-30 loss to the Farmington Knights in dual action at Fleming Fieldhouse.
