Akwa Ibom govt meets over worsening security situation in Uyo, environs

Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, yesterday summoned an emergency state executive meeting apparently to brainstorm on the worsening insecurity in uyo, the state capital and its environs.
Details of the meeting were sketchy.
For several days running, hoodlums have taken over parts of the capital city robbing residents from house to house , snatching cars in broad daylight, even as major supermarkets and petrol service stations have also been targeted.

FG admits education standard's falling, challenges administrators

The Federal Government has admitted that the standard of education in the country was falling and challenged education administrators to wake up from their slumber.
The Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, gave the verdict on Thursday at the commissioning of seven projects at the Federal College of Education, Yola.
He frowned at a situation where many graduating students “in our tertiary institutions do not know how to read should be of serious concern to all and sundry.”
He added: “Many graduating students in many tertiary institutions across the country find it difficult to write, read or communicate in English. Government is aware of this unfortunate development in our education sector and it not rest on its oars to salvage the situation”. ....
