The resolution before the governing body faced scrutiny since Bespoke was only formed in October, according to New York state filings, and only has two employees – despite claiming to have tested over 400,000 individuals during the pandemic.
“I have full faith in [Health and Human Services] Director [Stacey] Flanagan and everything she has done so far in the course of this pandemic,” Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh said before voting yes.
“My kind of view on the matter is we can’t delay any longer, we have to get vaccines out to folks and there were some questions that were raised, we’ll see what the director says, that struck me as really legitimate about the company’s expertise but this is the group that the city’s going with and they have to deliver,” explained Ward E Councilman James Solomon before casting an aye vote. ....

After touting a $2 million contract to launch six COVID-19 vaccination sites throughout Jersey City, the administration decided to pull the emergency resolution put in front of the council last week after it “appeared the vendor could not meet the standards.”

The emergency resolution in front of the city council from Wednesday evening would have awarded a $501,000 contract to Fixtech Medical USA, Inc.
Within the final few minutes of Wednesday’s session, Acting Business Administrator John Metro said that the resolution was being “withdrawn by the administration for further review.” ....

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop announced that the city will seek to create its own COVID-19 vaccination sites next year.
Jersey City may create its own COVID-19 vaccination distribution sites, according to Mayor Steven Fulop and the Jersey City Health and Human Services Department (HHS.)
The city seeks to establish six vaccination sites to prepare for the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines and the subsequent rollout of an immunization program so that residents and essential employees will have immediate access to a vaccine.
The sites would be spread across the city to ensures all residents can get the vaccine. ....

“We need to have a contingency plan in place to avoid any delays in making these critical vaccines available in the case that the state or federal government doesn’t provide resources,” Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.
“We feel that it is important to take the same approach as we did with testing, that we will use city dollars to get a program running and then fight to get the reimbursement later. As we saw when we took the initiative and became the first to offer city-run testing, we are finding ourselves in a similar situation with the vaccine rollout.” ....

Jersey City announces it will open 6 coronavirus vaccination sites

Jersey City plans to establish six coronavirus vaccination sites across the city, Mayor Steve Fulop and the city Health and Human Services Department said Wednesday morning.
The city has confirmed four locations so far: the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, the Joseph Connors Senior Center, James J. Ferris High School and Franklin L. Williams School, said Stacey Flanagan, director of the city’s Health and Human Services Department.
Fulop said the City Council will vote Wednesday night on the emergency resolution to spend $2 million to create the sites. The mayor said the expenditure is necessary since communities have been provide little funding and limited guidance from the state in establishing vaccination locations. ....
