Mersey rescue firefighters receive Queen s Commendation for Bravery

Firefighter Nigel Quarmby receives his award from chief fire officer Mark Cashin TWO firefighters have been honoured with the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery after rescuing a woman from the Mersey. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Nigel Quarmby and Colin Burgess, who are based at Warrington Fire Station, have received the recognition for their courageous actions during an incident along the river on Saturday, September 22 2018. Crews were called to the scene – near to Forrest Way in Sankey Bridges – shortly after 9pm after receiving reports of a woman threatening to enter the water. She then fell into the Mersey and was swept away by the fast-flowing current.

Queen’s Gallantry Medal Michael Hooper and Stephen Quartermain, Leicestershire Police, for attempting to rescue those who were involved in a helicopter crash at the King Power Stadium, Leciester, on 27 October 2018. On 27 October 2018, Leicester City Football Club played West Ham United Football Club at the King Power Stadium, Leicester. After the game, a helicopter crashed and caught fire in a car park at Filbert Way, Leicester, adjacent to the stadium. Police Sergeant Michael Hooper and Police Constable Stephen Quartermain were on uniformed duty in a police car assisting with the policing of the football match, when they observed the helicopter take off and then start to descend, quickly and out of control.
