CAPE TOWN - The ANC caucus in Cape Town is looking into the arrest of one of its councillors on drunk driving charges.
Councillor Patrick Mngxunyeni allegedly committed the crime on New Year s Eve.
It s also believed he was caught flouting the 9pm curfew at the time.
“As the ANC we take the matter very seriously and believe that the law must take its course and the person be brought to book. We also believe that the law applies to everyone irrespective of the position you hold in society,” said ANC caucus spokesperson Fiona Abrahams. ....

A 54-year-old ANC councillor was arrested for drunken driving.
ANC Caucus spokesperson Fiona Abrahams told Daily Sun that the ANC caucus in the City of Cape Town is shocked about the arrest of one of its councillors on New Year’s Eve.
“It is alleged that the councillor was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol while driving , said Abrahams.
She said as the ANC they take the matter very seriously and believe that the law must take its course and the person brought it to book.
We also believe that the law applies to everyone irrespective of the position you hold in society. ....

An ANC Cape Town councillor has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on New Year s Eve.
According to City of Cape Town ANC caucus spokesperson Fiona Abrahams, the party had learnt with shock about the arrest of one of its councillors .
As the ANC, we take the matter very seriously and believe that the law must take its course and the person [must] be brought to book. We also believe that the law applies to everyone irrespective of the position you hold in society, Abrahams said.
We will escalate the matter to the ANC [regional executive committee] for further investigation and possible disciplinary action against the councillor concerned. ....
