How Greece will jump on the hydrogen bandwagon

Germany will become the first country in Europe to put hydrogen passenger trains into commercial operation in March 2022. The European railways are putting the rails of the future on track, as 23 hydrogen trains have already been built by the French Alstom at its plant in Germany, have received all the necessary approvals.
Italy and France are following in the same footsteps, while Britain and Spain have already shown interest. But will hydrogen trains also get a ticket for Greece?
The discussion has been opened between Alstom, Trenitalia of the Italian group FSI – to which TRAINOSE belongs – and SNAM, with which there is a strategic cooperation, as well as with the competent Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as reported by Alstom SVP Jean Luca Erba, during the webinar for the 18 months of trial operation of the first hydrogen train, the CoradiaiLint, which will “run” commercially in Lower Saxony from March 2022. ....

Alstom delivers first refurbished ETR470 Pendolino train and modernised depot to TRAINOSE
20 January 2021 – The first ETR470 Pendolino train upgraded by Alstom has arrived in Thessaloniki, marking the arrival of high-speed trains in Greece. This is part of a project implemented by TRAINOSE - the main rail transport provider in Greece - in which Alstom is to provide depot modernisation and corrective maintenance for the five trains that will constitute the country’s first fleet of high-speed trains. The two contracts, signed in March 2020 for depot modernisation and in June 2020 for maintenance, are worth a total of approximately €40 million.
The scope of the contracts includes modernisation of a depot in Thessaloniki and corrective maintenance services for five Alstom ETR470 Pendolino high-speed trains. The Thessaloniki depot has undergone significant modernisation works in the past few months. The trains have also been fully refurbished and modernised by Alstom ....

First High-Speed Train to Arrive in Thessaloniki on Jan 18

ATHENS The first of the five first generation trains under the name White Arrow that brings TRAINOSE to Greece will arrive in Thessaloniki from Italy on January 18. The first trip with passengers will be held on the route Athens-Thessaloniki on March 25 on the occasion of the 200-year anniversary from the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Rule in 1821.
As the company s CEO Professor Filippos Tsalidis said to the Athens Macedonian News Agency, the new trains that can travel with up to 200 km speed will be delivered gradually to the Greek railway network after the completion of trial trips. ....
