zoi sadowski-synnott won slopestyle. a huge, huge oh, my! wow! reporter: even her fellow competitors couldn t help but jump for joy. it was a more predictable but no less breath taking moment of excellence in the figure skating team competition 15-year-old russian kamila valieva makes the near impossible look effortless. a talent like this comes along once in a lifetime. reporter: her short program helped put the russian team in first place. the u.s. slipping to second with two rough performances karen chen stumbled and then vincent zhou pulled out of a quad in midair. i don t think anybody wants to be the one to let their team down, and so there s definitely pressure that s there. you felt it a little bit today i felt pressure i ve practiced here so that helps with the nerves when go time comes. reporter: one group of athletes would like for that go time to
so she was able to compete here in beijing where on monday, she made olympic history, landing two quadruplejumps to help the russian olympic committee win figure skating team gold. now, on tuesday, those medals were meant to be handed out, but they weren t and that is because, on that same day, the swedish laboratory that was analysing her sample revealed that that sample had tested positive for a banned substance. that meant that kamila valieva was provisionally suspended by the russian anti doping authorities. then on wednesday, kamila valieva successfully challenged that provisional suspension. but now we know that the international olympic committee and the international skating union are appealing that decision to the court of arbitration for sport, and they are requesting they reimpose that provisional suspension. valieva is the favourite for gold in the women s singles event, which begins
failed a drug test, the six person russian team has not received their gold medal for winning the team event this week. the medal ceremony has been delayed for what is being described as legal consultation. it is unclear exactly when this positive test was taken, was it taken during the olympics, before the olympics, we re still buttoning that down. the only minor, though, on the russian figure skating team is the 15-year-old that i m sure you ve seen, kamila valieva. she made history on monday when she became the first woman to ever land a quad, four turns, at the game. joining us now is two-time olympian caitlin weaver who is a figure skating olympian, you may recognize, a canadian ice dance champion. caitlin, thank you so much for being with us. what is your reaction as you hear this news? thank you for having me. i have to say that i m disappointed, you know. as an athlete, we want to have faith in our sport and in our system to be fair. and when this news keeps coming
