Well. The last day on which the United States and the European Union announced sanctions together at the end of april, the russian stock market gained 1. 5 . I would suggest that is not a positive signal for the effect of those sanctions. May 2nd, president obama and chancellor merkel said if russia interfered with the may 20 elections there would be substantial sanctions. There were activities by armed separatists supported by moscow. We have not seen any punishment for that. In the g7 when they met in normandy said there would be additional sanctions over the course of the next month if russia stopped being part of the problem. Again, weve seen continued problems including the introduction of heavy weapons on the part of the separatist tanks, missile launchers as evidenced by the shootdown of the ukrainian elutian 76 on friday. The west needs to be tougher in terms of imposing costs if we are going to try to encourage the russians to shift their policy. The last point is it does seem
Investigations at specific Border Patrol headquarters, training and peace and the commission situation room. Although the office of the special counsel received complaints that overtime hours compensated were not being worked, the allegations are proven to constitute criminal or administrative violations our investigations did not substantiate any allegations that employees had received the compensation for hours that were not worked. The investigations did however substantiate aspects and questioned whether it was the appropriate mechanism for specific overtime compensation. In short, the investigations determined that work was conducted and importantly even where it wasnt the proper mechanism, they have an had an obligation and employees have an entitlement to be appropriately compensated for the overtime hours worked. The dhs and cbp have taken steps to address the situation. January 27 secretary thompson issued a memorandum to take immediate action to suspend certain categories and
Thanks to our colleagues and witnesses for working with the staff to enable us to put this hearing together fairly quickly. The purpose as you know is to examine 1691 the Border Patrol act of 2014 introduced by senator tester and mccain and this bill would make the badly needed reforms to the system of the Border Patrol for discourtesy too complicated and difficult to manage. I want to talk about what is happening currently along the borders over the past few years have seen a surge in the unauthorized migration from Central America which is nearing record highs and an unprecedented number of people operating at the border are unaccompanied children. Some are as young as ten years of age. They appropriately require that the children be treated differently than other migrants. They must be transferred department of health and Human Services and there are strict rules about their care. He announced he was creating a task force and devoting Additional Resources to coordinate the care. Sin
More 25 more time added to get their job done, and that to me says were not staffed correctly, one, or were managed improperly. Well, i think that the staffing at the in the Academy Locations is adequate for the mission at hand. At the headquarters in my environment, the staff i manage, we have a very lightfoot fri fo. If you bring somebody in to train, they know how to train or you wouldnt have brought them in to train, and to sit here and make the point that they got to have two extra hours at the end of the day to prepare for tomorrow in terms of training when theyre not consuming the whole eight hours during the training anyway just doesnt make sense. It doesnt pass the smell test to me. Again, i dont want any cut in pay. I want this stuff restored. My question is, is the assumptions under which were doing all this dont pass muster for common sense. Your testimony is that everybody at the Border Patrol needs an extra two hours a day to get their job done, and thats whether theyre o
