由于保护区面积大，普次仁每次巡逻的时间特别长。遇见砍树的人，他会耐心劝说，还在附近的村子开展保护生态的宣传教育。遇到不听从教育劝说的，他要将其带回管护站，等待有关部门赶过来处理。
农牧民不再和大自然抢饭吃，而是吃上生态保护饭。通过参与公益林管护获得劳务收入，部分老百姓的生活条件发生实质改变。以前只见自行车的扎雪乡，如今每家每户都有摩托车，有些人家还开上了小轿车。
如今，越来越多的农牧民成为野保员、林保员、湿地保护员，成为雪域高原的“生态卫士”，也在保护环境中实现增收。
