Mission Valley Bank President Honored With Community Volunteer Leadership Award
The President of Mission Valley Bank was honored in July for her volunteer work as board chair for the Community Foundation of the Valleys (CFV), spearheading the organization through many challenges, the least of which being the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mission Valley Bank President Tama Gurney was honored by the Community Foundation of the Valleys with The Fernando Award for her volunteer work in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys since joining the board of directors as chair in 2009.
“Until March 2021, Tamara chaired the Foundation’s board for more than 10 years. She is a resilient, tenacious, generous and forward-thinking leader that has led our organization through many challenges,” read the nomination announcement. ....

A silver lining has emerged in the wake of the vandalization of the Native American obelisk at Warner Center Park during last May’s civil unrest: the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians will now hold a seat on the board of directors of the statue’s sponsors, the Fernando Awards Foundation.
“We need to give significance and recognition to the people who started the San Fernando Valley,” said David Honda, a longtime Fernando Awards Foundation director, who told the Business Journal Wednesday that the addition is to be made official Jan. 26 in a board meeting on Zoom. ....
