Over 20 historic sites in South Jersey could receive a portion of $15.8 million in state grant funding to support preservation and heritage tourism efforts. The most notable sites to receive funding include Lucy the Elephant in Margate, the Walt Whitman House in Camden, and the U.S.S. New Jersey. The funding must be approved by the Garden State Preservation Trust, the state legislature, and Gov. Phil Murphy before it can be distributed.
Among the sites receiving funds: Benjamin Cooper House in Camden; Fernbrook Farm in Chesterfield; Greenfield Hall in Haddonfield and Lucy the Elephant.
Among the $1.7 billion in spending added to Gov. Phil Murphy's original budget plan, with little public notice, are new line items totaling $593 million.
