Capit capitol. appreciate your time. thank you so much. a voting rights victory for people with felony convictions in florida. a judge issued a preliminary injunction for a state law that would bar anyone with felony records from registering to vote if they had an outstanding court fine. people are disproportionately likely to be black. all of this sna state that that voted for amendment four to restore voting rights. a different strategy in effort to mobilize black voters. it is called a rad callaway to mobilize black voters in 2020, work on issues, not voting. joining me now is nbc reporter who wrote a piece about all of this. thanks for being here. give me the gist of the strategy here. it s important to note that this is one of several groups ....

Attempt at testing a mental state of somebody? well, i think there are lots of problems with the background check system as it is. you know, because we have so many guns and they re constitutionally protected, what we have to do is to try to identify risky people who are, you know, pose such a risk that it s justified to limit their second amendment right. we are stuck right now with the rules we ve had for a long time dating back to the 1968 gun control act. so that would be on the mental health side, involuntary commitment or a few felony records. but the problem is that it s too broad and too narrow at the same time. there are lots of people who are prohibited from guns maybe because of involuntary commitment 25 years ago, they don t pose a risk to anybody now. meanwhile there are tons of people out there, impulsive angry people with a short fuse who are carrying guns and they re not prohibited. we could have a perfect background check system and they would pass it. so we need bet ....
