Tourists from Hong Kong will soon be able to visit Singapore as a travel bubble opens next month, while the nation has been floated as a potential destination for Australians as well if transmission stays low.
The Wall Street Journal’s Feliz Solomon says Singapore has had very few infections, most of which are from travellers, and only 60 deaths and is “very eager” to reopen borders.
“From the beginning, Singapore has kept the virus pretty well under control, transmission has remained relatively low and the death rates have remained some of the lowest in the world,” she told Sky News. ....

Massive protests have swept Myanmar in opposition to a Feb. 1 coup that ended the country’s decadelong shift toward democracy and returned it to military rule. The takeover has pit citizens, who have poured into the streets in the hundreds of thousands, against a powerful military that has used lethal force to crush democracy movements in the past.
The military has again showed its willingness to violently put down dissent. On March 3, at least 38 people were killed after police fired at protesters. Three days before that on Feb. 28, 18 people were killed. The escalation of violence has raised fears that more lives could be lost. ....

Disinformation linking Myanmar’s recent coup d’état to Chinese influence has inspired anti-China protests in the capital, Yangon. Protesters’ suspicions were inflamed by a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Myanmar’s senior military staff that took place just weeks before the coup and a peculiar statement issued by Xinhua in the immediate wake of the coup describing it as a “major cabinet reshuffle.” International relations experts point out that it is highly unlikely that China orchestrated the coup seeing as Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s deposed leader, had guided the two countries’ rapprochement in recent years.
