Below the surface. even though the australian officials are looking in the right place there are challenges when they talk about the depths, three miles down in darkness with silt that can be very thick. a difficult environment to be sure. it s been said we know more about the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean. so just how has the sea bed been mapped? and what did that look like? on the bottom of the sea, it is dark and mysterious. the video you re looking at was taken with an underwater camera during an oil exploration under the sea. but during the mission, a startling discovery, more than 9,000 feet down, a vessel that sunk during world war ii, spotted on the sea floor, the ship now visible for the first time in almost 70 years. the camera picture remarkably clear. but it was not the camera that originally spotted the wreck. it was sonar. so you can only see eight, ten, 12 feet at a time. with the sonar type system you could actually map much larger areas. ....

Talking about imagine an elephant, the watt of an elephant concentrated on an area the size of a postage stamp. that s the kind of crushing force you ve got to deal with. also it s dark. when you get down below 1,000 feet down, sunlight never penetrates and you re in this world of total permanent darkness. it s alien world down there. it s quiet, cold, and dark. and then the seabed, it s just under three miles down. that s abiliout 15,000 feet. they re talking about concerns or the impact of silt on finding the black box and on the search. what s the impact of that? many of us have no idea what they re talking about when they talk about silt on the seabed. over the centuries if deby that filters down from the surface world, things die and disintegrate and filter down and become clay like muck. and things fall into there and they can disappear. we don t really know, it hasn t listen characterized what s down there, is it mountainous, rugged, flat? ....

Area of the trench and it s even 10,000 feet down, logistically it s a nightmare. even if we re good enough to be on top of where that box is or where there might be some debris that s dropped to the bottom, you still have to be able to get that pinging up to the surface, which is a distance of about three miles. some cautioned me while i was on vacation. they said the media s doing its job, you should test everything, however, you re not giving enough due to how difficult that is. this is about as difficult as it could be, unless you took away this data. fair assessment that we shouldn t be pushing for answer, this will take a long time? oh, this will take a long time but you should push for answers. the families grief is legitimate and they need ....
