You are no stranger to being in front of the camera. but this is your directorial debut. what made you actually want to get behind the camera to make this particular movie? well this was a originally a graphic novel that came out back in 2007. i remember when i first read the graphic novel, i was just blown away at how real it felt. how complex the characters were and how much it kind of reflected my own life at the time, and the lives of myself and my friends. so it just felt like a special authenticity in that way, and ever since i read, it i ve always wanted to make something of it. and it s incredible that 15 years later i directed the feature version of shortcomings. so we are not going to give away any spoilers because we obviously want everyone to go and watch the movie, but i think a couple of adjectives to describe this movie would be, messy and complicated. so look. you and i both are asian
