It comes as part of plans to build 1,500 new homes at the site.
Civic chiefs at New Forest District Council approved the larger of two applications to redevelop land occupied by the former Fawley power station.
A total of 1,380 homes, a 2,100-space car park and 95,300 square metres of new commercial, civic and employment space are to be built at the site.
The scheme put forward by Fawley Waterside Ltd, is expected to create 2,300 jobs, most of which would be in the marine and technology industry.
During a special meeting of the planning committee at the district council, the plans were branded as one of the most significant planning application that the council’s planning committee “will ever be asked to determine”. ....

A charity campaigning to save threatened 20th century British buildings has included The Lawns, the former University of Hull halls of residence, in its latest top ten “at risk” list.
The Twentieth Century Society (C20) aims to save outstanding buildings and examples of design that have helped shape the British landscape since 1914 and has today released its Top 10 Buildings at Risk List 2021, which places The Lawns, at Cottingham, in fourth place.
The university closed The Lawns in 2019 and the 40-acre site has now been earmarked for housing and is being put up for sale this month. ....

Foster + Partners' City Hall among notable buildings under threat in the UK


City Hall in London, the brutalist Derby Assembly Rooms and Swindon s Oasis Leisure Centre are among the UK s top 10 buildings under threat according to architectural campaigning charity Twentieth Century Society.
Other buildings at risk include the Bull Yard shopping precinct in Birmingham, the listed Halls of Residence at the University of Hull and the Cressingham Gardens housing estate in London.
