GALESBURG In February, Taylor Porter, 23, put a video onto YouTube condemning the Galesburg area Christian teen retreat The Weekend: A Journey with Christ, describing it as a cult. Months later, the organization’s leaders say they have intentions to change, although it is unclear what exactly that change will look like. The weekend retreat describes itself online as “three days of laughing and learning, praying and participating . driven by 13 talks given by a team of youth, adults, clergy and laity.” It has been held traditionally twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, at Costa Catholic Academy for 14-to-19 year olds who want to learn more about Jesus Christ. Father Lee Brokaw of Costa Academy says The Weekend is not a Catholic retreat or associated with Costa Catholic Academy. The Weekend previously rented space at Costa but is no longer renting or using our buildings. ....
