Construction has reached the halfway point for a $145 million downtown East Village apartment tower with a twist.
Unlike many of its neighbors, the target market for Saint Teresa of Calcutta Villa are some of the same people who may now sleep in the shadows of the steel shell of the rising building – homeless or recently homeless individuals, veterans and families.
Reaching 14 stories at 14th and Commercial streets, Saint Teresa’s will include 407 apartments meant to provide permanent housing for more than 500 people.

KUSI’s Kacey McKinnon was at Father Joes Villages on Good Morning San Diego to speak with the owners about their cause and why they decided to donate to Father Joes Villages.
How it works:
For every piece of clothing sold, they then donate one item to those who need it most. These items consist of blankets, towels, beanies, gloves, underwear, and socks. Additionally, for every piece of dog apparel purchased, they donate a can of high quality dog/cat food to the pets of the homeless.

SAN DIEGO The holiday spirit was alive and well at Father Joe s Villages on Thursday.
Even though the celebration looked a lot different this year because of the pandemic, hundreds of people experiencing homelessness were still able to enjoy a Christmas Eve meal.
The event began with a prayer by Deacon Jim Vargas, President and CEO of Father Joe s Villages. People are hurting out there, he said. It s all age groups. We ve seen an increase in families out there, and with children it always breaks my heart.
