FASTags mandatory now: All you need to know
FASTags have been made mandatory from today. The earlier deadline for FASTag was January 1, 2021 which was then extended to February 15 midnight. In November last year, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification making FASTags mandatory for all vehicles.
You must keep in mind that FASTags will be required for registration of new four-wheelers. Automakers or dealerships are already providing new vehicles with FASTags. The tag is also mandatory to obtain third party insurance from April 1.

FASTag is becoming mandatory starting today. Everyone who has a road trip on the cards will need a FASTag for their car in order to cross toll plaza s across national highways. The deadline today is an extended deadline from the previous January 1 deadline put in place by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. FASTag s are meant to enable contactless toll payments across national highways in the country and can be issued via multiple banks including HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, Paytm Payments Bank and IDFC First Bank, to name a few. FASTag payments option has already been enabled at more than 720 toll plazas on national highways across India.
FASTag mandatory from midnight on 15 February; vehicles sans stickers to pay double toll fee The ministry has clarified that this has been done to further promote fee payment through digital mode, reduce waiting time and fuel consumption, and provide for a seamless passage through the fee plazas FASTag sanctioned by the National Highway Authority of India.
New Delhi: The government on Sunday said it has made FASTags mandatory from 15 February midnight and any vehicle not fitted with it will be charged double the toll at electronic toll plazas across the country.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways in a statement said it has decided that all lanes in the fee plazas on National Highways shall be declared as FASTag lane of the fee plaza from midnight of 15th/16th February 2021.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had made it mandatory for all vehicles to use FASTag from 1 January 2021. However, considering the fact that many are yet to buy a FASTag and are making cash payments at toll plazas, the ministry has now decided to extend the deadline till 15 February, 2021. This means that all vehicle owners will now have time till 15 February to get a FASTag affixed.
