That wasn’t always the case when it came to automobiles, but it was the basic idea behind the “original snowmobile,” a clever Ford Model T conversion kit that was created by Virgil White more than 100 years ago. White was an inventor and authorized Ford dealer who serviced and sold Model Ts in West Ossipee, New Hampshire. In 1913, he patented a Snowmobile conversion kit for Model Ts, but he didn’t put it on the market until 1922, after he had “perfected it in every detail.”  Henry Ford was impressed and allowed White to sell the kit exclusively through Ford dealers for $400 (a Model T cost about $300). White also offered a complete, already-converted Model T Snowmobile for $750.
