Releasing modding tools for a game that features sex scenes has led to the most obvious outcome: a Cyberpunk 2077 mod that allows for model swaps that let you have “sex” with Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand, amongst others.
CD Projekt Red have now stepped in to have the mod removed or its scope changed, which is no doubt disappointing for those with the hots for Reeves, but thoroughly understandable.

They issues the following explanation to Eurogamer:
“Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can’t be harmful towards others. In the case of model swaps, especially those that involve explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077.
It can t be harmful towards others. Updated on 28 January 2021
Nobody was particularly surprised when modders managed to put Keanu Reeves character into Cyberpunk 2077 sex scenes, so perhaps it comes as even less of a shock that CD Projekt Red has now intervened - and the model swap mod in question has been taken offline.
Made by modder Catmino, the mod offered swaps for a variety of characters in Cyberpunk 2077, along with an explanation for how to do the whole process manually. It seems CDPR took issue with one specific model swap, the Johnny Silverhand joytoy file, which allowed players to have sex with Keanu Reeves character. CDPR told me it doesn t mind modders using model swaps for most of the fictional characters in the game, but draws the line at using real-world likenesses in explicit scenes without that person s permission.

CD Projekt Red have intervened to remove a Cyberpunk 2077 mod that allowed players to swap in Keanu Reeves character, Johnny Silverhand, into the game s sex scenes. Made by Catmino on Nexus Mods, it allowed players to change the character models for joytoys (Cyberpunk s men and women of the night) to a variety of NPCs. But while CDPR are okay with players swapping these to other fictional characters, they say you can t use models with a real-world likeness without that person s permission. Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can t be harmful towards others. In the case of model swaps, especially those that involve explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red told Eurogamer.
