The Listening was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It s about a couple who are completely alone and isolate in a country house, says the Sydney filmmaker. All of us were in that situation. Maybe not in a country house, but alone together. Also the film is about fear. Fear of loneliness, fear of isolation. I guess we were all grappling with those things during the lockdown.
But the past 12 months weren t the inspiration behind the story of a tree change gone wrong.
The Listening was shot two years ago, but has become eerily prescient.
