Campus Notes: Area college students earn recognition


Lily Ouillette, daughter of Shawn and Julie Ouillette of Pittsfield, has been named to the dean’s list at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., for the fall 2020 semester. Ouillette is majoring in music education. She is a 2020 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Connor Blodgett of Great Barrington achieved dean’s list honors during the fall 2020 semester at Vermont Technical College where he is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in the computer engineering technology program. Dean’s list requires a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester.
Elizabeth Bona, a North Adams resident studying hospitality at Lasell University in Newton, recently earned a Problem-Solving Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification. Bona also shared a presentation on an original concept developed for a course on food and beverage management in hospitality called “Tipsy Traveler” at the University’s Fall Career Readiness Symposium in December 2020. ....

Lasell University s Fall Career Readiness Symposium featured presentations of research, visual art and two Newton students.
Billy Straughan, of Newton, was a member of the university s course on Black Psychology and helped to organize African Diaspora Day educational activities for the symposium. Straughan presented a series of education stations as a virtual method of sharing takeaways with attendees.
Fred Gjerasi, of West Newton, participated on a panel of junior-year Lasell Works students. They shared anecdotes from and answered questions about their year of work experience in Lasell Works Sophomore Year Experience, which requires students to pair part-time work experience with online professional development courses. ....

NEWTON, Mass. — Kaie Quigley, a Lasell University student from West Wardsboro, presented at the University’s Fall Career Readiness Symposium in December.
Quigley contributed to a virtual sharing of student art created during the fall 2020 semester. Students were challenged to visually communicate a core personal belief using three words or less, combined with elements and principles of design.
The December 2020 event showcased the work of Quigley and more than 150 other students in a dynamic digital format, a triumph for flexible teaching and learning amid COVID-19. The December 2020 event was reimagined to celebrate and showcase the ties between career preparedness and Connected Learning, thanks to a three-year grant from the Davis Educational Foundation. ....

Auburn student presents at Lasell symposium
NEWTON, Mass. Naiv Luciano Velez, a Lasell University student from Auburn, presented at the university’s Fall Career Readiness Symposium in December.
Velez was a member of the university’s course on Black Psychology, and helped to organize African Diaspora Day educational activities for symposium. Velez facilitated a panel discussion on Black identities in the African Diaspora, featuring guests who shared their journeys of Black racial identification and the nature of their lived experiences within the Diaspora.
