There is currently underway in Ohio’s 15th Congressional district a special election to replace outgoing Republican Representative Steve Stivers.
Thanks to gerrymandering, the Ohio 15th is an overwhelmingly Republican district. The 2020 margin of Republican victory was nearly 27%.
So the election that matters isn’t the November 2nd general it’s the August 3rd primary. Whoever wins the R primary skates backward into Congress in the general.
So there is an avalanche of Republicans running. Twelve according to Wikipedia. And as often happens in these uber-gerrymandered districts, some people who shouldn’t be in the Republican primary run in the Republican primary because it’s their only chance of ending up in DC. ....

The Left knows its ideas are terrible. And thus very unpopular in all but the most ridiculously partisan portions of the country. So running to win as Democrats the Party of the Left is rarely a good idea.

I saw a great deal of this while living in Texas in the 2000s. A bunch of trial lawyers funded a bunch of “Republican” primary candidates in state House and Senate races. Looking to defeat actual conservative candidates and populate the Capitol with their guys…just wearing different Party hats. ....
