Aberdeen City Council's climate change plan approved

Aberdeen City Council has approved its climate change plan for 2021-2025.
Aberdeen City Council’s plans to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045 at the latest has been approved unanimously.
In the council budget set in 2020, £100m was committed to helping the council tackle climate change.
Some of the projects being proposed to assist with helping the council achieve this goal are carrying out a hydrogen for heat feasibility study, retrofit pilot for 100 council homes, upgrading the lighting at Marischal College, conversion to dual fuel refuse collection vehicles, creating a council carbon budget, 100% of street lighting turned to LED and expand district heating connections. ....

Aberdeen councillors struggle with £30m budget shortfall


Tory council co-leader Mr Lumsden said: “As part of our budget proposals we have agreed that there will be no increases in fees and charges this year.
“In the middle of a pandemic, it would be ridiculous to ask citizens to pay more for services at this time and I am delighted that due to the administration’s financial stewardship over the last nine years we are in a position to help citizens when they need that help most.”
His Aberdeen Labour co-leader, Mrs Laing, said: “I have been involved in producing the administration’s budget for the last nine years. ....

More than 30,000 people have been helped by a fund set up to tackle poverty and deprivation
The £1.6 million Fairer Aberdeen Fund, which is allocated by Aberdeen City Council, focuses on helping the most deprived neighbourhoods as well as supporting vulnerable groups and individuals.
A new report has revealed that  34,431 people were involved in, or benefited from, funded initiatives, 9,327 of them were under 16 years old.
The fund is dispersed and managed by the Fairer Aberdeen Board, made up of representatives from regeneration areas, the Civic Forum, local authority, NHS Grampian, Police Scotland and the Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations. ....
