Bridgeport schools announce graduation date

BRIDGEPORT Bridgeport is inviting graduating seniors to celebrate their accomplishments at staggered commencement ceremonies this June.
Bridgeport schools have selected a June 16 district-wide graduation date and are finalizing end-of-year plans for 12th graders, whose high school experiences were upended by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Superintendent Michael Testani told the Board of Education this week, “We are just finalizing the logistics of it.” ....

Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Hannah Beebe, Tyler Friedman, Caelah Kennedy, Miles Kennedy, Gabriela Majewska, Kara Mitchell, Molly O Neill, Sami Siegel, and Catherine Xie.
The exhibition also includes a mural created by MoCA Westport s Teen Council and the World s Largest Abstract Painting, created by community members at a 2020 Family Event at the Museum.

Shelton schools enjoy $800K surplus, for now

SHELTON The school district has a projected $800,000 surplus through its 2020-21 budget, but the finance director warns this could be temporary.
The surplus primarily from underspending in the certified and non-certified staff accounts could disappear with uncertain future costs from health insurance, the nutrition services program and a pending lawsuit against the Board of Education, School Finance Director Rick Belden said during a Thursday meeting.
With six months remaining, Belden said the employee benefits accounts are currently $155,834 more than budgeted. ....
