Her Recession: Bill to make child care more affordable passes, helping parents get back to work

SPOKANE, Wash. Child care is about to cost some families less, especially helping women who have been feeling the effects of the pandemic.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the pandemic is hurting women’s employment. Many women are being pushed out of the workforce, having to stay home with kids during the pandemic.
While Kayla Wambold was not laid off from her job, she was able to find child care. Her sister is watching her children and is getting paid by the state to do it through the Friends, Family and Neighbors program. Wambold still has to pay a co-payment, working through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. ....

Fifteen weeks ago, majority Democrats in the Washington Legislature convened a 105-day session vowing to address the fallout from COVID-19, police accountability, greenhouse gas emissions and issues of racial justice.
On Sunday, Democrats adjourned the session having accomplished much of what they set out to do, including passage of a number of sweeping bills that Gov. Jay Inslee, in a statement, called “historic” in nature.
This session s accomplishments are as important to the long-term well-being of our state as any session I ve seen, Inslee said in prepared remarks. 
The final weekend proved a whirlwind. Among their final acts, Democrats approved a roughly $59 billion, two-year state operating budget along with a new – and long-elusive – capital gains tax aimed at Washington’s wealthiest residents. ....
